Course Overview

According to the IEA electricity could meet over 50% of our energy needs by the middle of the century. Electricity is undoubtedly the most effective way to use energy and with power grids continuing to decarbonize it is the most effective way to reduce emissions too. New sectors such as the heat and transport sectors are looking to electrify their businesses and processes. New players must understand the electricity markets and the regulatory frameworks that underpin them. These companies could also become active participants in the electricity market selling power and services to the grid and creating new revenue streams.

That is why the course “Markes Fundamentals for Heat and Transport” has been created to allow participants to understand how this change will impact their business and how can they benefit from it.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course the participant should be able to understand the following.

The key markets for electricity for power, capacity and ancillary services.
Know the players and the regulatory framework that defines the electricity market.
Understand the non-energy charges in the market and the impact on their bill.
The key terms to consider when negotiating a Power Purchase Agreement and how these contracts interact with the electricity markets.
How can large energy users participate in the electricity markets by electrifying their heat and transport loads.
The technologies that are looking to electrify the heat and transport sectors such as thermal storage, EVs etc.
