Course Overview
System Services forms an important part of the energy market to help balance electricity supply and keep the grid stable. Through ‘DS3’ (Delivering a Secure, Sustainable Electricity System) a market has developed specifically for System Services to help ensure increased ‘non-synchronous’ generation on the system that has enabled Ireland to become a world leader in renewable electricity.
These System Services, from technologies such as batteries, supply quick response power when required to the electricity grid when there are fluctuations in supply. This ‘DS3’ market which was based on contracts for tariffs is now being replaced with a new market model which aims to have short-term auctions.
Course Objectives and Learning Outcomes
Attendees will learn about the current market structure and the new future model proposed by the Regulators. This new structure comprises of a move from the current tariff based system, to initially the establishment of quarterly auctions, developing to a daily auction structure eventually. This results in multiple stages of change and developing specific regulatory governance which will be presented to attendees.
